So someone at a party last night told me they had heard Hot From the Oven (Inuit Jargon’s CD that we recorded in early 2006), and I was totally flabbergasted. I guess I forgot it was available to the general public.
I’m pretty sure this was the first and only person that I’ve met who said their favorite song on the CD was The Kibosh which is interesting because it’s one of the only songs of ours that I still listen to on that CD. As far as music and arrangement it’s probably the most complicated song we recorded.

Oh and here’s a recording of The Kibosh from the first time we ever performed live.

The song totally doesn’t translate live and especially when we don’t play with a full band, but it was always fun to do the few times we did it.
We ended up cutting it out of the set for good reason: we didn’t actually write it to be funny. We were actually quasi-seriously trying to write a song that was something like Five Years by David Bowie. Before we finished it, I remember it was just called “New Pornographers/ Bowie Song.” I think we made a decent effort.

Hats off to Andrew for writing a great song.
