So I was unsure about showing people work-in-progress stuff from Oro Platiado until it was finished, but since the premiere date isn’t until next semester, I might as well start getting my ya-yas out now.
For those of you not in-the-know, Oro Platiado is a pastiche / homage / satire of violent Spanish telenovellas and overwrought student films. Rodrigo Magallanes (Rafael Gaitan) plays a drug lord in Columbia with a heart of gold and an iron fist being pursued by a hard-boiled DEA agent who plays the violin (Adam Bowers). Approximately 70% of the dialogue is in Spanish.
It’s pretty much an orgy of pretentiously filmed gun-violence and on-the-nose dialogue. Surprisingly, I think the script (written by Rafael) still needs a lot more wanton violence to work. It also needs more surprises.

Now, after the third day of shooting, I think I’ve gotten comfortable enough to make some legitimately good shots going foward. We’ll see.
Oh, and yes, I already know Platiado (”silver” in Spanish) is spelled with an -e and not an -i.
Update: Speaking of Adam Bowers, check out the trailer for the movie he made last summer with Ryan Moulton and Valerie Jones, New Personal Worst.
Promising…

Man, those stills look good.
Please tell me I have more to do with it.
